An experienced creative brand marketer and content strategy leader, Bret has produced in-house creative marketing campaigns and memorable experiences for companies such as Arrived, Rover, Cheezburger, Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas, SXSW, and King of the Web. Bret specializes in leading marketing teams for fast-growth startups with a proven track record of developing innovative programs from the ground up, building engaged global audiences, and creating impactful content. He’s partnered with brands such as Starbucks, Disney, Nature’s Recipe, Uber, Kong, Amazon, and his work has been featured in Mashable, E! Online, ABC News, Fast Company, Digiday, CNBC, LA Times, Parade, Entertainment Tonight, People.com, Yahoo! News, PopSugar, Geekwire, and more.

As the Head of Brand & Content for Arrived, a pioneering fintech startup disrupting fractional real estate investing, Bret is dedicated to bridging the divide between innovation and accessibility in the real estate sector. The company is backed by notable investors, including Jeff Bezos, Marc Benioff, former Zillow Group CEO Spencer Rascoff, and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. Bret leads a dynamic brand marketing team to implement marketing strategies across email, blog, social media, and PR, aiming to educate investors and empower individuals to engage in the future of property ownership.

As the former Head of Social & Content Marketing for Rover, a petcare marketplace technology platform, Bret built the social and video program from the ground up and developed a strong brand presence to attract a highly engaged and vibrant community. As Rover entered a hyper-growth phase, Bret led the social integration efforts through multiple mergers and acquisitions, expanded the content and social marketing program globally, and scaled revenue through partner marketing and a robust affiliate program. As a key stakeholder and cross-functional partner, Bret was instrumental in the company's growth and ultimately helped to launch Rover as a publicly traded company in 2021.

Before joining Rover, Bret oversaw the social editorial team for Cheezburger’s multiple company verticals, such as ICanHasCheezburger, Memebase, FailBlog, and Geek Universe, utilizing his deep understanding of entertainment, internet, and pop culture. He led his team in developing marketing campaigns across digital, social, and mobile platforms for over 20 million unique monthly visitors while growing the social community to reach over 10 million fans. During Bret’s time at early startup King of the Web, an online competition and discovery platform of top-tier social media influencers and YouTube personalities, supported by Nick Hanauer and Rich Barton, Bret developed the social, influencer, and content program from the ground up resulting in an international community of over 10 million unique users in a very short span of time. The creators that Bret worked with went on to become some of the biggest names on the internet, such as PewDiePie, who now has over 111 million subscribers on YouTube.

Some of Bret’s fondest memories of projects include delivering kittens for Uber + Cheezburger partner marketing campaign, “ICanHazUberKittens,” hunting for truffles, or climbing a mountain at sunset to get the perfect shot for a Nature’s Recipe + Rover social video series, and recreating the Lady and the Tramp spaghetti kiss scene to promote Disney’s re-release of the animated film. Producing original content is Bret’s passion, and one of his favorite ongoing projects, “Dogs Model the Trendiest Halloween Costumes,” received over 300 pieces of press coverage in the US, Canada, and the UK. Due to its popularity, Instagram featured the Lady Gaga Met Gala dog costume image as a part of its #diyfashion digital ad campaign.

Before joining the tech industry in Seattle, Bret worked with Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas in Austin, creating and executing experiential, promotional, and brand activations for corporate-owned theaters across the country. His love of genre film and his experience as a theater programmer led him to volunteer with SXSW as a screener reviewing independent film submissions for the festival. During his time in Austin, Bret played bass in a local rock band that toured regionally and was featured as a showcasing artist at the SXSW music festival. Some days, if you listen carefully, you can hear him playing quietly in his “dad studio” in the basement of his home in West Seattle.
